Hello everyone! This season has flown by and we went out with a bang! Our last few trips had some great catches of False Albacore, Amberjacks, and Redfish. We even got a bit of the Albacore action on video and I will post it below. 2008 was another awesome year for Reel Adventure. We started off with 2 brand new boats, caught lots of citation sized fish, saw many repeat customers, and made lots of new friends. I am looking foward to 2009 and I hope to see even more of you again!

Reel Adventure will be operating out of Pine Island Florida from Dec 2 through March 1. We will be flats fishing and sight casting with fly rod and spinning tackle for Trout, Redfish, Snook, Ladyfish etc. This is catching not fishing! This will be my 4th year wintering in Florida and my 3rd year guiding there. For more information please check out the following link…. PineIsland Fishing Charters . The Amberjack fishing was a blast this year. I was once told if these fish would jump no one would go to Florida to Tarpon fish!

For you fly tiers here is a video I just finished on how to tie a larger popper fly. It is what I use to catch the large Amberjacks on fly rod.

The Wrightsville Beach Fishing and the Carolina Beach Fishing has been great! Fall fishing is in full swing! When the weather allows we are catching red drum, bluefish, amberjacks, king mackerel, flounder and sharks on light tackle. Now is the time to fish! Give us a call. The proof is in the pictures!

We have gotten quite a few AJ’s on fly rod. 12 wt and 10 wts are barely a match for these guys! Lots of breakoffs, but a few have made it boatside!

Had this AJ on for about 5 minutes. It was a 100 ft give and take battle the whole time before he beat the 10 wt gear. It was awesome…..fly line came half way in and shot right back out over and over. Cant wait untill the next one!!

Reel Adventure Charters 10-9-08 report…..it’s a good one!

The Wrightsville Beach Fishing and Carolina Beach Fishing has been hot the past couple of days. We have had a great week with Spanish on Fly (you have to see the video!), Black drum on a new fly I designed..”the transformer ”(the tying video is below), and we boated a 164 pound Bull Shark. The shark was weighed and filleted and eaten so it did not go to waste. It is the biggest one to date we have landed and it surpassed John Ribbles and Paul Rocha’s 131 lb baby shark. LOL, I hope they are reading this, if so give me a call! This shark fulfilled my quest for a citation shark and again was not wasted so I hope I dont catch the grief from some that have nothing better to do than gripe about a dead shark, it has happend before. Sorry but I dont mean to be rude, it is a legal catch and will feed quite a few families!

Sorry for the lack of reports. I have just been flat out busy!! I also had to get a new I phone and reset everything in it. That takes forever when its not backed up! Unfortunately I fell in the water with my last one, so Phelpsy…….I know its comming let me have it! You are now off the hook for going overboard and me laughing about it all day. Lots of you may not get this, its a long story.

Hello everyone. The shark fishing continues to be fantastic and there has not been a shortage of customers and friends ready to challenge these beast’s on trolling or spinning tackle, and even 10 and 12wt fly rods! The sharks were quite visable today, it was an amazing show!

This 25lb class shark burnt up a 10 wt! He had the Tibor singing and took half of the backing before he calmed down. This shark had attitude!

My good friend Jason with a 90-100 lb shark. He’s a big guy so I always make sure I lock the reel down at 33 lbs of max drag before I hand it off! He’s going to figure out how to back off that lever drag sooner or later!

Here is Michael Phelps and his daughter with a nice shark. He shares the name with gold medalist and in true fasion if you look closley it looks like he has been swimming. This is one trip I will never forget!! I had a great time with you guys and look foward to our next trip in a few weeks!

Carolina Beach and Wrightsville Beach Fly Fishing 8-13-08. Reel Adventure Charters

Hello everyone!

We finally got a rainy day so it gave me a chance to get caught up on the reports. The Wrightsville Beach Fishing and the Carolina Beach Fishing continues to be great and it will only get better as fall arrives!

Our shark fishing and spanish mackerel fishing has been the “Hot Ticket” latley. First lets start with the sharks. This is a fly fishermans dream! We caught over 15 sharks on fly last week and had triple the amount of “shot’s” at them while sightcasting. It is all sightcasting and on most of the days you will see them take the fly…it is one of the best bites in the sport and they really make the 10 wt Tibor riptide and 12wt Tibor gulfstream reels sing! Watch for a video to come soon!

If you have never fly fished before don’t worry, it is actually a very simple 30 ft cast or I can hook the shark up for you and you can wear him out! I love introducing the sport of fly fishing to my customers! And don’t forget we can always get them on spinning tackle or trolling tackle if you like!

The action was so good this day we stayed well past the end of the charter and my clients insisted that I tug on one! Awesome…Thanks guys!

The pictures below are a some of the Army’s finest. It was an honor to take these guys out. These guys have been in some fierce action. We all should thank them for their service.

Now for the spanish report. The spanish are pretty thick right off the beach out to the 4 mile range. We are catching lots of them sightcasting with small jigs and have also caught a ton of them on fly. Small clousers with long shanked #2 hooks that resemble glass minnows are the ticket….and you have to strip fast!! It is awesome to see the spanish follow that fly and hammer it right at the boat as you begin your next cast. If you cant strip fast enough make your cast into the school and start to pick up the line with the rod to make another cast while your fly is in the school, this will speed up the fly and will often get the bite.

Thats all for now. I guess im going to finish up the day off by tying up a few shark flys and a few clousers for spanish.

Reel Adventure 8-4-08 Sharks on Fly with VIDEO

The Carolina beach fishing and Wrightsville beach fishing the past two weeks has been awesome to say the least. We have caught and released over 100 sharks and well over 25 fly fishing. All but 1 have been tagged and released. I have tagged over 200 sharks in the past 2 years since entering the tagging program and I have never re caught one of my tagged sharks or any tagged shark for that matter. But we did have an interesting encounter last week. 4 days prior to this encounter I lost a shark on fly. It took my fly, leader and about a inch or so of my fly line. I think my line was near another piece of bait and another shark got the bait and bit my fly line by accident. Now here we are 4 days later hooked up to a shark on spin tackle and up comes the shark with my exact fly hung in his back, leader and all! Very cool! I removed the fly from the shark and it is now part of my fishing collection of neat stuff that is on the wall…much to my wife’s dismay! The shark fishing had a lull for about 3 days last week but it was in full swing today. Give us a call to get hooked up! We have the following August days available, the 16th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 25th, and many days in September.

Instead of putting up pictures I did a 2 week video recap on all the shark photos wich includes quite a few pictures from todays trip! There was just way too many pictures!

Reel Adventure 7-25-08 Report. Sharks of Fly!

The Carolina Beach and Wrightsville Beach shark fishing has been excellent this year. We have caught over 100 sharks easily this past week sight casting, trolling and on fly. Now is the time to take a shot at them on a fly rod! We went 3 for 3 on the fly rod the first day and 6 for 11 (strikes) on the fly the second day with numerous looks at the fly. I busted my 12 wt (shut it in the door) or we would have had even more. I will have the 12 wt back in a day or two from G Loomis. I also have another 12 wt in the works with a Tibor Pacific reel and two 10 wts with Tibor Riptide reels that will be ready for action very soon. We are taking the 8 wts tomorrow and hoping a monster does not come along! Can’t wait!Enjoy the pics, these are just the fly fishing pics. The 100 + lb monsters will be back next week (already have the photos!)

Reel Adventure Fishing Report 7-20-08

The Wrightsville Beach Fishing and Carolina Beach Fishing has been doing well.Nearshore we have been targeting large sharks and flounder. We have had a few sharks on fly.Offshore the king mackerel are in the 10 mile range as are a few cobia and amberjacks.Here are the past weeks pics enjoy!

Reel Adventure 131 LB Shark!

Today I had John Ribble and Paul Rocha and his son aboard for the third year in a row shark fishing. These are some awesome guys and I look foward to our trip every year as much as they do. We just click and a good time is had by all!

In 2006 we slayed them and they were hooked from there on! 2007 we missed out due to no shrimp boats that day. Well today I was able to redeem myself and it was a huge relief to do so. The first 3 hits on 5o lb stand up rods with 200lb braided line with 9/0 hooks came off. We quickly realized we had some monsters, they were bending out 9/0 hooks!!! Next hit we kept it on, they fought it for 45 minutes and passed the rod between the 3 of them. Up comes a 131 lb shark and not a minute too soon by the look on their faces. I think we went 6 for 9 today with a few more runs that we didnt even count. We also pout 2 more in the boat about 80-90 pounds!

Thanks guys! I am already looking foward to next year!
