Topsail & Surf City Outdoors-Fishing Report 4-7-09

April 7th, 2009 by CCCB Press

Hi folks, Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. Water temps in the low 60’s in the ocean and inshore temps pushing 70 in some places have the fish biting. Loads of Specks and Reds are back in the sound and in the creeks. Some fat Black Bass are on the nearshore reefs and ledges too. Lea Island is hot as usual with reds on the north and south ends. Some big schools of reds are moving in the surf and when they move through it can be interesting. Folks now is the time for all good men and women to lay out of work and go fishing on a nice day. The good thing about it is you don’t have to do a dawn patrol cause the fish ain’t moving and feeding till the sun warms them up a little.
Turkey season is almost here! I hope some of you folks took a kid out for youth day and maybe got one. I’m going to the mountains this weekend to see if I can outsmart one. I had a fellow make the statement to me the other day that he didn’t see what the sport of turkey hunting was all about because they weren’t that smart. I didn’t even respond! Wild turkeys are smart and wary critters. They are not the same birds in the turkey house’s scattered throughout this area! Yes those birds are stupid and could not survive in the wild. Anyone who has been lucky and taken a bird is grateful to get it! When you go into the turkey woods be careful, that hen may be another hunter. Be positive about your target before you pull the trigger. Well thats it for this week so be safe and take a kid with you!
