Headhunter Outdoors Report 12-31-2007
December 31st, 2007 by CCCB PressHi folks Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. The fishing is slow but that doesn’t mean you can’t catch a fish! They have just slowed down a little.
The surf is where the most action is happening now so go sit on the beach and soak some bait. Reds,Trout and blues are around and biting. Some mullet are biting as well so there ain’t no telling what might bite.
Now is the time of the year to start planning for spring. Don’t just throw those rods and reels in the shed and expect to pull them out and use them in a couple of months. Saltwater will rust rubber! Wash all your equipment in warm soapy water, dry them off and lube them good. Now put them in the shed and they will work at a later date. Otherwise just throw them in the trashcan and go buy new ones next time you want to go fishing. While you are at it go ahead and winterize the boat too. Now don’t forget the trailer either. Preventive maintenance done this time of the year will prevent a bad experience come springtime!
On the hunting side, only 9 more months till deer season comes back in! Never fear though all the small game is still in season and duck season is in too. Take the kids out to hunt squirrels or rabbits with a .22 or small guage shotgun. It will be a blast! Now boys and girls lets talk about the new year and resolutions. If you just have to make a New years resolution try to make it something real. Exercising and getting in the gym is great but unreal for most of us. Besides carrying a 100 lb bag of corn back in the woods and trudging through the saltmarsh in chest waders at 5:30 am,in ankle deep mud duck hunting burns loads of calories and is great for the old ticker. Hey if it don’t kill you it will only make you stronger! Get out of the gym and into the great outdoors. Do you think Daniel Boone ever went to a gym. NO! Well thats about it for this week so get outdoors and take a kid with you.
