Headhunter Outdoors Report 9-4-07

September 4th, 2007 by CCCB Press

Hi folks,Capt. David with this weeks outdoors report. Folks the fishing is great now and will only get better as the weather starts to cool off. I’ve heard unconfirmed rumors of some spots starting to show up. They are still small but hopefully we will have a good run this fall. the surf is holding Pompano,Red and Black drum,Croakers, flounder and Speckled trout. The Trout bite seems to be the best in the morning. Back in the sound the Reds are wearing it out right now. If you sit long enough just about anywhere along the waterway and fish a finger mullet on a Carolina rig you will catch one. By the way the Flounder are everywhere too. I’ve been catching a lot of keepers around the docks along the waterway and Banks channel. The New river is full of trout along with Flounder and Reds. Heck if you can’t catch a fish now you need to quit. I hear that golf is fun!
Offshore the Kings are biting about everywhere and a lot of Sails are being caught while Kingfishing. All the reefs and rockpiles are loaded with bottom fish. You don’t know what might bite out there this time of the year. It could be as big as your hand or as big as you are. You never know! Mahi are still plentiful and are not to far out. The Grouper are biting as well. Check out the deeper reefs and ledges in the 20 mile range and take some heavy tackle.
Sunday I had a charter and we were in the neighborhood of Washington acres and had two Manatees swim by the boat. This is about as far north as they come and it’s great to see them in the area. I just hope they head south before it gets cold! Thats one of the things I like about living here, you never know what you will see out on the water.
I hope everyone went Dove hunting Saturday and got the limit. I went and only saw 2 birds. Hey, thats the way it goes sometimes.Deer season comes in on Saturday so get ready. As an animal population control specialist I will be doing my part till the season goes out. Remember to be safe and wear your safety harness when you go up that tree. Make sure your stand is safe as well. Get a new regulations digest and check out the new rules. They are hi-lighted in red. This year you can get extra doe tags at any wildlife agent location. Well thats it for this week, so be safe and send in your pictures. Take a kid with you too.
