Affordable Charters Fishing Report 11-16-08

November 17th, 2008 by CCCB Press

On the piers a few spot, Virginia mullet, bluefish, flounder, black drum, red drum, blowfish, & some small croaker.

In the surf the red drum have been very plentiful, even some 25 to 35 pounders at night. Some good catches of speckled trout, flounder, black drum, blowfish, Virginia mullet, bluefish, & a few gray trout.

Inshore red & black drum, flounder, speckled trout, Virginia mullet, small croakers, & a few gray trout.

Offshore no report due to heavy winds.

Fishing tip of the week: Surf fishing has been very good this past week. We went and had large catches of red drum with double hook pier rigs with number 4 hooks & using shrimp for bait. The red drum ranged from 5 lb to 10 lb & they really put up a good fight on a limber rod. Just remember the limits & don’t keep anything you aren’t gonna eat. Keep fishing & stay safe.

Affordable Charters Fishing Report 11-9-08

November 9th, 2008 by CCCB Press

Inshore we are catching flounder, red drum, black drum, gray trout, speckled trout, spots, croaker, & virginia mullet.

In the surf people are catching lots of pompano, some flounder, red drum, black drum, blues, spots, & virginia mullet.

On the piers they are catching spots, virginia mullet, blues, croakers, & black drum. Offshore king mackerel, dolphin, & barracuda.

On the bottom black bass, groupers, snappers, grunts, & ringtails.

This weeks fishing tip: Sometimes I have felt like going surf fishing for just an hour or two so I would take a small amount of bait, but then after 30 minutes of good fishing I am out of bait. But now you have “synthetic” alternatives to natural cut bait, bloodworms, or shrimp. I have tried them and they do work. So now I always keep a few bags in my tackle box. Island Tackle & Hardware has a large variety of Berkley Gulps or Fishbites. Fort Fisher Trading Post also sells them. Keep fishing & stay safe.
